In our science book the other day we saw a recipe for making your own ice cream … now I don’t know about you but that is MY KIND OF SCHOOL WORK!!
Here is what you’ll need:
Powdered sugar
Sea salt
Ice
Half and Half or Heavy Cream
Vanilla
Large and Small ziploc bags, one of each for each person making ice cream
First take the small ziploc bag and pour into it 1/4 tsp vanilla, 2 TBSPs powdered sugar and 1/2 cup half n half.
Next, take the large ziploc bag and fill it about half way with ice, then add 6 TBSPs rock salt/sea salt to the ice.
Seal the smaller bag {filled with liquids}, then place the smaller bag into the middle of the ice in the big bag, then seal the big bag too.
Now comes the fun part … a great way to get the kiddos to shake their sillies out … they need to shake and shake and shake the bag vigorously for about 6-8 minutes! We found that our hands were FREEZING, so we wrapped a light kitchen towel around the bag while we shook. {And yes my kids are in PJ’s in these pics, it was shortly before bedtime!}
In about 6 minutes you’ll know it’s done because all that cream mixture will have turned into ICE CREAM!
Take the smaller bag out of the ice bag, rinse it quickly to get any salt off the bag, then open it up and pour your ice cream into a bowl.
We ALL loved it, it was VERY yummy, creamy and delicious! We threw some chocolate chips over it to add a little flavor but even plain it was very good. I told the girls, I may never buy store bought ice cream again!
My daughter is having her birthday party this weekend and this is another thing we are planning to make with the girls. I’ll have some fun toppings for them to add {as well as brownies!} and it will make for a fun, memorable party dessert {just something different instead of the traditional cake and ice cream}.
Here is another variation of the MYO Ice Cream that we are hoping to try in the near future.
Have you ever made your own ice cream? What method do you use?
